No — and this is the most common misconception about this tour.
The Blue Cave is a partially flooded limestone cave. You cannot snorkel inside it because the interior is mostly dry and explored by walking around it, not swimming.
The snorkeling takes place on the coral reef in front of the cave entrance, which is one of the most colorful reef areas in northern Ishigaki.
At the end of the snorkeling session, we enter the cave by either swimming about 5 meters or, at low tide, wading through shallow water. The cave is partially flooded, but we don’t snorkel inside it. We walk through the interior for about 10 minutes. This gives you both experiences: reef snorkeling and cave exploration, in the same tour.
Sunlight reflects off the white sandy seafloor and travels through the clear water at the cave entrance, making the water and the cave walls glow a soft, mysterious blue. The effect is strongest on very sunny mornings — on cloudy days the blue is much more subtle.

Because the main activity is the reef snorkeling in the open water in front of the cave, we need calm conditions without significant wave action — waves make snorkeling unsafe and reduce visibility.
On days with strong swell, we move to an alternative snorkeling location rather than cancel the tour.
For the cave visit at the end of the snorkeling session, depending on the tide, we enter the cave either by swimming a short distance or by walking through shallow water.
